Sofar Ocean and the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command have entered into a five-year cooperative research and development agreement to explore collaboration opportunities aimed at enhancing the Navy's data gathering and weather forecasting capabilities.
The partnership will leverage Sofar's data assimilation methods, marine sensing technology, and data-as-a-service platforms, with the goal of enabling improved decision-making by operational commanders. The signing of the agreement comes one year after the U.S. National Ice Center deployed a Sofar spotter buoy for North Pole patrol operations.
