The New Technology Proving Low Cost Wave Buoy project advances to its next phase

In early November 2020, The Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) New Technology Proving Low Cost Wave Buoy Technology sub-facility celebrated its one-year milestone,  a collaborative effort involving researchers from the University of Western Australia, Deakin University, University of Melbourne, Australian Institute of Marine Science (AUMS), and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

The project focuses on assessing the performance of the small, low-cost Spotter wave buoys, which could aid in efficiently expanding wave observations across Australia. Leveraging the substantial volume of collected data over the past year, the project aims to develop new QA/QC procedures for delivering wave buoy data within IMOS, collaborating closely with the AODN.
