Webinar: How Coastal Carolina University uses real-time ocean data to enhance coastal monitoring and climate resilience
Date: Wednesday, September 18th, 10am PST
Join Paul Gayes, Ph.D. (Coastal Carolina University) and Tosca Lichtenheld (Government Solutions Lead, Sofar) for an in-depth webinar focused on coastal zone monitoring via the South East Atlantic (SEA) Econet and Smart Reef programs. These initiatives use the Spotter Platform to collect real-time ocean data at scale, bolstering environmental monitoring efforts in the southeastern U.S.
Paul will detail how he and his team at the Burroughs and Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies:
- Deploy Spotters at scale to lower the cost and complexity of collecting ocean data.
- Integrate Spotters with artificial “Smart Reefs,” which act as centralized platforms for surface and subsurface data collection offshore.
- Disseminate data collected by Spotters to expand coastal resilience efforts, improve forecast models, enhance extreme weather preparedness, promote safe fishing, boating, recreation, etc., and boost the blue economy.
- Use the Bristlemouth open ocean connectivity standard to experiment with custom subsurface sensing solutions.
A Q&A will follow the presentation.
